Oil on canvas: 76.8 x 63.8 cm. The actress Frances Barton (married to James Abington) was one of the popular stars of the London stage. Reynolds (obviously an admirer) portrays Mrs. Abington in one of her most successful roles, that of the young ingénue Miss Prue in William Congreve’s comedy 'Love for Love'. Showing her in character, and adopting what was then taken to be a suggestive pose.

Max/ Maximilian Kurzweil. Lady in Yellow (‘Dame in Gelb’), 1899 (Wien Museum, Vienna).

Oil on canvas: 170 x 170 cm. The artist’s wife. Kurzweil was co-founder of the Vienna Secession, but seceded with Klimt and others in 1905. He became a teacher at the Artschool for Women in 1909. Was appointed war painter in 1915, and committed suicide with his pupil Helene Heger in 1916. His work was only rediscovered in 1964 after a retrospective 'Wien um 1900' at the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere.

Oil on wood: 110 x 140.5 cm. Now considered a copy after Beuckelaer. Contemporaries would look for hidden erotic meaning in paintings like these. Apparently the cabbage was a symbol of female sexuality.
