Pieter Bruegel the elder. The Blind leading the Blind, ca. 1568 (Museo di Capodimonte, Naples).



Distemper on linen: 86 x 154 cm. Also known as ‘Parable of the Blind’. The museum has a good-quality copy by an unidentified late 16th-century Flemish painter (formerly attributed to Bruegel’s son Pieter Brueghel the younger). Another copy by another unidentified painter is at the Musées royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, Brussels.

Gerrit Dou. A sleeping Dog beside a Terra-Cotta Jug, a Basket and a Pile of kindling Wood, 1650 (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston).


Oil on wood: 16.5 x 21.6 cm(!). Sold in 2005 by the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation (Orange/ Texas). Then in the Eijk and Rose-Marie van Otterloo Collection (Naples, Massachusetts). Donated to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in October 2017.
