George Clausen. Primavera, 1914 (private collection).

Oil on canvas: 91.4 x 71.7 cm. Auctioned at Christie’s London, June 2014. Thought to be Lilian (‘Lily’) Ryan, a well-known model in London studios at the time. The picture was exhibited at the Royal Academy in May 1914, and attacked with a meat cleaver by suffragette Maude Kate Smith aka. Mary Spencer. The ‘Rokeby Venus’ in the National Gallery was attacked just two months earlier.
