Oil on wood: 55.3 x 35.3 cm. The depiction of 'Weibermacht' becoming increasingly popular in the 15th century Northern Renaissance. Role reversal in a patriarchal masculine society. The (threatening) power of women. Bathsheba, Delilah, Jael, Judith, Phyllis, Salome. Here Phyllis (wife or courtesan of Alexander the Great) is taking revenge on Aristotle, humiliating him by riding him like a horse. Auctioned at Sotheby’s New York, January 2008.
