Gustav Klimt. Unfinished Portrait of Ria Munk (‘Frauenbildnis - Ria Munk III’), 1918 (private collection).
Oil and charcoal on canvas: 180.7 x 89.9 cm. Third (unfinished) painting in a series of three posthumous portraits commissioned by the Munk family of their daughter Ria. Similar provenance as ‘Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I’. Confiscated by the Nazi regime in 1941 and sold to art collector and dealer William Gurlitt. Transferred to the Lentos Museum, Linz in 1953. Restituted to the Munk estate in 2009, and sold at auction at Christie’s London in June 2010. Now privately owned (The Lewis Collection).
