Sarah Goodridge. Beauty revealed, 1828 (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York).

Watercolour on ivory: 6.7 x 8 cm(!). Sexting in 1828. This miniature was never meant to go public, and one might argue it’s inappropriate to have it exhibited. Goodridge (who was a miniaturist by profession) gifted this self-portrait to her love interest Daniel Webster. His heirs auctioned it in 1981, and the new owners transferred it to the Metropolitan in 2006. Goodridge was aged 40 when she painted this miniature.
