Rogier van der Weyden. Portrait of a Lady, ca. 1460 (National Gallery of Art, Washington).

Oil on wood: 34 x 25.5 cm(!). The empty gaze is caused by the lack of highlights in the eyes. There is no reflection on the cornea. Nor is there a touch of white on the lower lid to represent moisture.
