Jean-François Millet. Portrait of Louise-Antoinette Feuardent, 1841 (J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles).

Oil on canvas: 73.3 x 60 cm. Early work by Millet before he became known as the Barbizon painter of peasant life. Louise Antoinette Cassini-Feuardent was the wife of a friend of his. This portrait was done shortly after her marriage in February 1841, and that’s why she’s displaying her wedding ring. Have a closer look at that collar. It’s pretty wild.
